The D.C.M. (District Committee Member)

    What is a D.C.M.?

The heart of A.A. is the group, which elects a general service representative (G.S.R). The G.S.R. attends district meetings that are made up of the groups in that district and any interested members of A.A. The G.S.R.s elect a D.C.M. Thus, the D.C.M. is a vital link between the G.S.R.s and the area service structure, including the area’s Delegate to the General Service Conference.

    When is the D.C.M. elected?

The D.C.M.s are usually elected by the G.S.R.s within their districts at the area assembly meeting at which the Alternate Delegate is elected.

    How long does the D.C.M. serve?

Most D.C.M.s serve for a two-year period.

    What does the D.C.M. do?

- Holds regular meetings of all G.S.R.s in the district.

- Assists the Area Registrar and Alternate Delegate in obtaining group information in time to meet the deadline for appropriate A.A. directories, and mailings.

- Keeps G.S.R.s informed about Conference activities.

- Holds workshops on The A.A. service Manual, Box 4-5-9, along with other A.A. Group topics.

- And of course, makes a practice of talking with groups (old and new) on the responsibilities of being an informed A.A. Group!
